The Good Book

Hi, everyone! This week's Ways To Use It Challenge theme over at Splitcoast is 'Book Club'....anything book related. When I create cards for my family, I always ask if they have a request for theme, colors, etc. My brother-in-law is a pastor; he immediately asked for a 'King James Bible' card.  I dug through some old tax boxes to find a yearly planner book and tore off the cover since it had the perfect texture to look like a Bible cover!  The rectangles and cross dies are from Divinity Designs LLC and the letter dies are from Top Dog Dies.  The tassel was made from gold cording....it matches the gold foil cardstock  in the real, but not in the photo, unfortunately. On the inside a scripture verse stamp and birthday greeting were used.

Be Amazing - 3D Lion

Hi, everyone! This week's Featured Stamper over at Splitcoast is Brian aka ZPaw.....congrats, Brian!! I chose this awesome lion card from Brian's gallery to case today.  The image from Gray Wolf Graphics and the word dies from Top Dog Dies are unfortunately unavailable to buy these days since both companies are out of business. The lion image was stamped multiple times, fussy cut, and layered to create a 3D look.  A clear glaze pen coated the eyes to make them look realistic.  For the card base, a Cajun Craze Ink pad was swiped across creating a Faux Wood look. A small hole punch was used to create the faux brads.  The image was framed with the following dies from Divinity Designs LLC: Oval Stitched Rows and Ovals.

Birthday Cocktail

 

Hi, everyone!  This week' Sketch Challenge over at Splitcoast was absolutely perfect for creating a birthday card for my hubby.  His card request this year was for me to make a 'Bahama Mama' card (his fave tropical drink when we go on vacation!)  I had been searching for a fun stamp set to buy and found this 'Cocktail Mixer' set by Newton's Nook.  The image was stamped with Stazon Jet Black; everything except for the liquid was colored with markers, then sealed with a clear glaze pen; after the glaze was dry, I used sponges and inks to color in the cocktail.  The background panel was sponged with the same colors: Marigold Morning, Tangerine Tango, and Real Red.  The palm tree dies are from Top Dog Dies, who went out of business several years ago.  The water and clouds were also colored with sponges.  The small strip of designer paper is from the 'Weathered Wood' Paper Collection by Divinity Designs LLC.  Here are the additional items from Divinity Designs LLC: Pierced Rectangles Dies, Matting Rectangle Die, Pierced Circles Dies, Circles Dies, A2 Portrait Card Base with Layer Dies.

Alcohol Lift Ink - 2 'Amazing' Cards

Hi, everyone!  This week's Featured Stamper over at Splitcoast is Adriana aka fl_beachbum....congrats, Adriana!  I loved every page of her gallery, but finally decided on this beautiful card to case....thought it would be a great design for trying out my new Alcohol Lift Ink pad and Yupo paper.  The Yupo paper was inked up with three different alcohol inks; the 'Floral' background stamp from Stampin Up was inked with Lift Ink and stamped onto the inked panel.  Once the image was lifted, it was stamped onto white cardstock while the alcohol panel was lightly buffed to reveal the floral image which had been lifted off.  Each panel was then cut with the ODBD Custom Pierced Rectangles Dies for a finished look.  Instead of using a sentiment strip, I chose to use the 'Amazing' word die (which I won from 'Your Next Stamp' in the DTGD challenges this year!) across the panel.  Due to a slight measurement miscalculation of the word die, I was unable to place the panel on the edge of the card as Adriana did, so I moved it to the top corner instead.  Die cut letters (Top Dog Dies) were added to complete each sentiment and two turquoise gems were added at the bottom. I couldn't decide whether I liked the ghost image or the stamped image best, so I made a card with each of them. (An added thanks goes out to Karen Dunbrook for inspiring me to try new techniques!)
