"Faith, Hope, & Love" Framed Gift Set

Hi everyone.....long time, no blogging!  Since there were no big deadlines looming during the past week, I stayed out of my craft room and spent more time puttering around the house and snuggling with my man.....we both needed some down time!  I won't ramble too much today, but wanted to share a project which was posted on the Our Daily Bread designs Blog last week for the "Time With....Angie" post.

Time With.....Me!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Every other Thursday on the ODBD Blog, one of the "Breadsticks", (Design Team Members), are featured with a special project for the readers. This week it's my turn! Check out this "Time With....Angie" post on the ODBD blog for a tutorial on how I stamped and colored this scene from start to finish.

Hi everyone! Today I'd like to share a fun framed scene created with the combination of two sets from Our Daily Bread designs. Since I write a lot of the posts for the ODBD blog, many of you probably know that my favorite adjective when it comes to ODBD stamps is VERSATILE! I love how you can combine sets to create any scene or any theme you like. Today I am using a brand new set, scheduled for the February 1 release, called 'The Mighty Sea" along with the very first ODBD set, "Light of the World".....what a perfect combination!!


Supplies used:
Stamps: Our Daily Bread designs 'Light of the World' and 'The Mighty Sea' (available 2/01/12);
Cardstock: SU Brocade Blue and Whisper White;
Ink: Stazon Jet Black, SU Ink Pads and markers;
Accessories: Sponge Daubers, 3m Post-it Craft Paper, silver brads, SU Linen Thread and Corduroy Button, Baker's Twine, paper piercer and template, White Signo Gel Pen (waves), Stamp-a-ma-jig Stamp Positioner, 6 x 8 Frame.

ODBD April New Release Blog Hop!!

Happy April 1st, everyone! Hope you make it through the day without any April Fool's tricks!!! No tricks around here.....it's time for the Our Daily Bread designs April New Release Blog Hop....yay!!!! For my sample today, I have used a fabulous new set, designed by our DT sister, Dawn Lusk, called "Bird and Butterfly Labels". There are four images in this set, which all coordinate with the Spellbinders Labels 18 dies....how cool is that? The designer paper is Memory Box "Frond", the satin ribbon is from Michael's and was tied with a Bow Easy. The cardstock is SU Early Espresso (Brown), the pearls are Zva Creative, and there are several layers of my fave "Pearl" Glimmer Mist. The "Mother" sentiment is from another new April new release, "Mother's Day". Here is a close up which shows off the shimmer from the "Pearl" Glimmer Mist over the panel which was stamped in Stazon Timber Brown and colored with a sponge dauber and Certainly Celery ink pad! My second project was featured on the Our Daily Bread designs blog on Thursday for a "Time With" segment....this time it was my turn! Some of you have already seen the transformation of the $2.50 birdhouse from Target, but if you would like to see the before & afters plus more views, please check out this post. I wanted to share it here today since I used three new ODBD sets on it, "Bird Border and Corners", "Mother's Day", and "Bird and Butterfly Labels". Our Daily Bread designs' Brocade Borders Custom Cutting Dies!

Happy Wednesday, everyone! Yesterday I shared some of my stamping secrets, both on my blog and on the Our Daily Bread designs blog for "Time With Angie". Today I am sharing with you how to use the new custom cutting dies from Our Daily Bread designs which cut out the new Brocade Borders stamp set perfectly!

The first step is to stamp one of the Brocade Borders.


Each cutting die from the Brocade Border Die Set comes with a clear template in order to line up the cutting die perfectly over the stamped border.


Line up the template over the image. While holding the template in place, use a pen to mark each hole as a guideline for your die.


Place the cutting die cut-side down, lining up and centering the placement holes. I use scotch tape or post-it notes to hold the die in place so that it cuts correctly.


Run this through your favorite die-cut machine...I do use an extra layer of cardstock as a shim. Here is a photo of the result....isn't it awesome!? No more fussy cutting!! I love it!

Angie's Stamping Secrets!

Happy Tuesday, everyone! In case you missed the "Time With Angie" post on the ODBD Blog today, thought I would share some of my stamping secrets here on my blog as well.

It seems like just yesterday that I was a beginner stamper. There are so many little things I have learned along the way which make the difference between creating a good card and creating a great card! One of my favorite sayings is "It's the little things that make life big!" This is true in relationships AND stamping! Today I would love to share some of those little things which I incorporate into my work.

When others ask advice about paper-crafting, here are the most common suggestions I give:
*Always measure and cut accurately;
*Unless you're going for a distressed look, always trim off any paper shreds from the cut edges;
*Never glue any pieces together until you know for sure what the finished project will look like;
*Take your time when assembling your project to make sure things are lined up straight.

The most common question I get is "How do keep your paper piercing so straight?" Here are a few pics and some paper piercing tips:

Number one tip: Never assemble your project and try to paper-pierce afterward....it is nearly impossible to get straight lines and your paper will most likely crease on the edge. To get the best visual effect from paper piercing, I always adhere each panel to its mat before piercing. It is a little more difficult, especially if you have more than two layers to pierce through, however, it gives a more dramatic look. If you pierce a layer and then adhere it directly to another, the backs of the holes may smash back in and won't be as visible.

This photo shows my stamped/embossed layer already adhered to the white mat. Most of my paper-piercing is done with a template I got from Stampin' Up when I first started stamping. I use a standard paper-piercing tool and the foam mat is an Ornare Piercing Mat which I bought to use with some Ornare templates....I like this foam mat since it is a larger size. Line up the corner guide of the template with the edges of the top layer.

Once you start piercing, go very slowly and press down on the template at all times. As you are piercing, the template has a tendency to shift. Every few holes, make sure that the guidelines are still square.....otherwise, your pierced line will not be straight. As long as you cut your paper at 1/8" increments, the piercing should come out perfect at the next corner. Please note: Since I rounded the corners on this card first, I usually leave three holes un-pierced on each corner (the corner hole and one on each side of it). You can either pierce two holes by hand to round the corner or strategically place a pearl or embellishment in the corner instead.


I also pierce by hand when I use Spellbinders which are shaped other than a square or rectangle. When piercing a circle or oval, I usually start at top center and "eyeball" the spacing, trying to be consistent as possible. When you are coming close to the top on the other side, it does take a little planning to make them come out without having obvious space differences. When piercing around shapes that have "corner points" as the "Curved Rectangles" below, I usually pierce each point first, then carefully "connect the dots" per se! It does take a little practice, but just take your time....you can do it!!


Usually the back sides of any project are not a pretty picture, but thought it might be helpful to show a "behind the scenes" shot of what most of my cards look like before I adhere them together. When I use paper -piercing, I usually will pop up each pierced panel......the shadow from the space between gives a greater visual of the pierced holes. To make sure that your mailed cards don't come out lopsided or smashed, use plenty of foam tape around the edges. When using ribbon, I always adhere my ribbon before applying the foam tape, to keep it from being lumpy.


Here is my finished card, which features the new Brocade Borders Set, the custom-made Brocade Borders Cutting Dies, the Brocade Background stamp clear embossed with Ranger Clear Embossing Powder and SEI chalk ink, and the "Peace" set from the "Full of Grace" line. I used a Bow Easy to tie the May Arts Embroidered Satin Ribbon and the pearls are by Hero Arts.

"Time With"......Me!!

Each week Our Daily Bread designs features one of their Design Team girls, otherwise known as "The Breadsticks", on the ODBD blog....this week, it's mine turn!

Today I would love to share a birthday card I made for a dear friend. I knew I wanted to make a trellis with the wide lace given to me by my friend and scrappin' buddy, Debbie Wallace....hi Debbie!! I started out by sponging the background scene....using scratch paper for masking, I sponged the grassy area, then sponged the sky using a SU cloud template. After paper piercing the edges, I added May Arts satin ribbon, topped with lace ribbon by Offray across the middle. I then adhered my "trellis", added punched leaves with a Martha Stewart punch and tiny paper roses by Zva Creative. The sentiment panel is a pre-printed Flower Soft Card Topper. Both oval layers were cut by hand, then stamped with my go-to stamp from the "Thinking of You" set, paper pierced, and embellished with Raspberry Fizz UltraFine Flower Soft. The pearls are by Zva Creative and the finished card was sprayed with Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Mist. The butterfly punch is also by Martha Stewart, topped with Zva Pearls, and hubby advised me where to place it!! Thanks, honey!! :)

I have used a few challenges in the making of this card. The Sketch Tuesday Challenge at Christian Paper Crafts (on which I definitely took some liberties), plus the Color Monday Challenge there to choose one or a combo of blue, pink, orange or yellow. The Shabby Tea Room challenge this week is "Summer Fun".....what says summer more than a blooming rose bush? I LOVE working in my flower gardens, but my stamp room usually wins out!! Also, at the Stamp Something blog, the challenge there is "Happy Somethings".....flowers ARE happiness to me!!!! A Spoon Full of Sugar's challenge is Enjoying the Sunshine. The Tuesday Throwdown challenge this week is Celebrate Summer! Lots of summer stuff going on....love it!!

Framed Violets

Hi everyone! Today I would like to share a quick and simple project I made featuring one of the new gorgeous floral sets by Our Daily Bread designs, called "The Lord Has Risen". The violet image and this verse are quickly rising to the top of my fave list for ODBD! I ran across this metal frame that I bought at Target several years ago and thought it would be perfect for this project, especially since it has a hint of amethyst. The verse and image were both stamped on watercolor paper with Stazon Jet Black. The violets were colored with markers; I stamped some extras to attach to the outside as an embellishment. Since there was no room for pearls under the glass, both the stamped piece and violet embellishment were sprayed multiple times with "Glacier" Glimmer Mist....unfortunately the glimmer is a little camera shy!

"Time With Angie" CAS Card

Today is "Spending Time with Angie" over at the ODBD blog. Each week one of the "Breadsticks" are featured....this week, it's little ole me!!!

For today's project, I am stepping out of my comfort zone.....into the Twilight Zone.....um, I mean, the Clean and Simple zone!!! The new sets this month from Our Daily Bread designs speak so much for themselves that there is no need to "over-do it". My project is highlighting one of the sentiments from "Luke 2:11", Basic Grey "Wassail" designer paper, Basic Grey Opaline Pearls, Spellbinders Labels Four, Ranger Antique Linen Distress Ink, ODBD Olive Ink Pad, and one of my fave products...."Pearl" Glimmer Mist.

I have used a several challenges to make this card. Heather's Color Monday Challenge over at Christian Paper Crafts was to make a holiday project using traditional red and green. Also Jen aka Miss Boo over at Splitcoast provided a Clean and Simple sketch challenge this week. And Betty's Color Challenge at Splitcoast is to use neutrals with a POP of color. I embossed my vanilla cardstock and dsp panel with Spellbinders Impressabilities and stenciled them with Antique Linen.
